Waste-Free Technology for Producing Biofuel from Poultry Litter Using the Wet Torrefaction Method
Talk Abstract

Waste-free technology for processing PL into biofuel has been developed. We are investigated the poultry litter (PL) processing into environmentally-friendly biofuels and biochar using wet torrefaction (WT) methods in a fluidized bed blown with steam at a temperature of 300°C. In terms of the ratio between (H/C) and (O/C), the PL after WT treatment corresponds to lignite. The chemical activation of biochar with potassium hydroxide was studied at 600 and 800 ° C and 30 min residence time.  Adsorption characteristic  of  biochar: methylene blue adsorption (mg/l) - 675.80 (600 ° C) and  872.77 (800 º C), CO2 SDFT (m2/g) - 1010.37 (600 ºC) and 955.13 (800 ºC). A Microbial fuel cell (MFC) was used to treat the process waste water (condensate) after WT. A two-chambered MFC was set up and operated in batch mode for a retention time of 18 days. The two chambers were immersed in a water bath set at 30 °C. The voltage and current were detected using a digital multimeter. The results showed maximum values of power output (27.24 mW), current density (0.000942 A/m2), and power density (0.214 W/m3), respectively.
