M. Santamouris is a Scientia Professor of High Performance Architecture at UNSW, and past Professor in the University of Athens, Greece. Visiting Professor : Cyprus Institute, Metropolitan University London, Tokyo Polytechnic University, Bolzano University, Brunnel University and National University of Singapore. Past President of the National Center of Renewable and Energy Savings of Greece. Editor in Chief of the Energy and Buildings Journal, Past Editor in Chief of the Advances Building Energy Research, Associate Editor of the Solar Energy Journal and Member of the Editorial Board of 14 Journals. Editor of the Series of Book on Buildings, published by Earthscan Science Publishers. Editor and author of 14 international books published by Elsevier, Earthscan, Springer, etc. Author of 320 scientific articles published in journals. Reviewer of research projects in 29 countries including USA, UK, France, Germany, Canada, Sweden, etc..

Prof. Michael I. Henderson

Short Biography

Michael I. Henderson received two Master of Engineering degrees, Electrical Power Engineering in 1977 and Electrical Engineering in 1976, both from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA. In 1975, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York (now NYU) where he served as an Adjunct Lecturer from 1993 through 1999. In July 2016 Mike became the Editor in Chief of Power and Energy Magazine and, since July 1999, he has been a Director in the System Planning Department at ISO New England. Previously, he had more than 22 years of experience at the New York Power Authority, Long Island Lighting Company, and American Electric Power. Mike has presented technical seminars as well as over seven-dozen panel and technical papers at IEEE and other forums. Mike is a registered Professional Engineer, an IEEE Fellow, and a native son of Brooklyn, New York.

Prof. Ange Nzihou

Short Biography

Professor Ange NZIHOU (M) is Director of the Research Centre for Particulate Solids, Energy and Environment (RAPSODEE – CNRS) at the IMT Mines Albi-Carmaux (France). He is a Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering and Editor-in- Chief of the peer reviewed journal “Waste and Biomass Valorization” (www.springer.com/engineering/ journal/12649), and the founding Chair of the WasteEng Conference Series dedicated to the organisation of conferences and seminars on Waste and Biomass Valorisation (www.wasteeng2016.org) since 2005. He is currently editing a Handbook on characterisation of biomass, biowaste and related by-products (Springer Nature) to be published in December 2019. He is Visiting Professor in number of Top univerities in USA, Europe, China and India and Malaysia. He has developed outstanding expertise in research fields such as Energy and added value materials from Biomass and Waste; Elaboration, recovery of Phosphate and macronutrients from waste and biomass, functionalisation phosphate based composites / hybrid materials (sorbents, fertilizers, catalysts, energy carriers, sensors) for energy, agriculture and depollution (liquid, gas, solid phases); Thermochemical processes (pyrolysis, gasification, reforming) for biochar, bioash and energy production; The behavior of pollutants such as heavy metals and aerosols (fine particles) and Kinetics and transfer phenomena are among its field of expertise. Through these research and industrial projects, he has supervised 32 PhDs (21 graduated already, 10 co-advised with colleagues from top universities in USA, Canada, Ireland, China and India), 12 post-docs, published 130 papers in peer reviewed journals, 4 world patents (2 scaled-up at industrial level), 33 invited plenary and keynote lectures in international conferences. He has chaired and co-chaired 10 conferences and 2 international summer schools. He has obtained about 5.3 M€ of research grants over the 20 last years. He is chair and principal Investigator of 2 joint Laboratories with industry. He obtained some International and National significant scientific recognitions and awards such as the Grand Prix 2018 of the Academy of Sciences of France in association with IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom) for his outstanding contribution in science and technology of energy transition. He was also awarded with the Erudite Professor of the Mahatma Ghandi University (India) in 2018. He was also promoted Knight of the National Order of Merit (France) in 2017 on the besthood of the President of France. He has frequently worked as evaluator for EU projects (RTD, SME, Intereg) under the FP7 and H2020.

Professor Alexander M. Korsunsky MA DPhil CPhys FinstP

Short Biography

Professor Alexander Korsunsky is a world-leader in engineering microscopy of materials for optimisation of design, durability and performance. He leads the MBLEM lab (Multi-Beam Laboratory for Engineering Microscopy) at Oxford, and the Centre for In situ Processing Science (CIPS) at the Research Complex, Harwell. He consults Rolls-Royce plc on matters of residual stress and structural integrity, and is Editor-in-Chief of Materials & Design, a major Elsevier journal (2018 impact factor 5.770).
Alexander holds the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) from Merton College, Oxford. He was Junior Research Fellow at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, and Lecturer at Newcastle University, before returning to Oxford. Each year he gives several keynote and plenary lectures at major international conferences. He has extensive links that include visiting appointments in Italy (Roma Tre), France (ENSICAEN) and Singapore (NUS, NTU, A*Star).
       Prof Korsunsky's research interests concern improved understanding of integrity and reliability of engineered and natural structures and systems, from high-performance metallic alloys to polycrystalline ceramics to natural hard tissue such as human dentin and seashell nacre. He co-authored books on fracture mechanics (Springer), elasticity (CUP) residual stress (Elsevier), and published ~350 papers in scholarly periodicals on subjects ranging from multi-modal microscopy, neutron and synchrotron X-ray analysis, contact mechanics and structural integrity to micro-cantilever bio-sensors, size effects and scaling transitions. His h-index is 36, with his top publications cited over 500 times.
Support for Prof Korsunsky's research comes from EPSRC and STFC (major UK Research Councils, over £2M current funding) and the EU (~€6M project iStress), as well as from Rolls-Royce (~£0.5M current funding), Oxford Instruments, the Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), NRF (South Africa), DFG (Germany), etc. He is member of editorial boards of the Journal of Strain Analysis, FFEMS, TAML.
Prof Korsunsky plays an important role in the development of large-scale research facilities in the UK and Europe. He was member of UK delegation to ESRF Council and Chair of the Science Advisory Committee at Diamond Light Source (2010-14), where in 2017 he was also named a Leading Light in UK synchrotron science. His activities expand the range of applications of large-scale facilities to real engineering problems.
